EU Court Decision on Time Tracking

May 21, 2019

A recent decision handed down by the European Court of Justice, the highest court in the European Union (EU), requires that employers record daily work hours for employees. This ruling was the result of litigation involving a Spanish labor union and Germany's Deutsche Bank.1  The language from the decision requires that employers, "set up an objective, reliable and accessible system enabling the duration of time worked each day by each worker to be measured."2
