What Day is Memorial Day 2024

Memorial Day, originally known as Decoration Day, was officially established in May of 1868, three years after the end of the United States Civil War.  Memorial Day was created as "...a time for the [United States] to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers." ¹ The last Monday in May is dedicated to honoring and mourning the U.S. military personnel who fought and died to secure and preserve our freedom.

In 2024, Memorial Day will fall on May 27th. It's a Federal and Business Holiday in the US, so expect closures for schools, banks, state and federal offices, and many private sector businesses.
