The month of October has one federal holiday. Columbus Day always falls on the second Monday in October - this year the holiday lands on Monday, October 12th.
Columbus Day
Since Columbus Day is a federal holiday, all non-essential federal government offices are closed on Columbus Day, and all federal employees are paid even if they receive the day off. Many private-sector businesses also take the day off and recognize Columbus Day as a paid holiday.
