When is Thanksgiving 2023?

November 1, 2023

This year Thanksgiving Day falls on November 23, 2023. This is a federal holiday recognized by the closing of federal offices, schools, banks, and most private sector businesses. Many businesses and non retail institutions are closed or have modified hours of operation the day after Thanksgiving, Friday, November 25th.

History of Thanksgiving Day
The Thanksgiving tradition in the United States can be traced back to a well-recorded 1619 celebration in Virginia. Pilgrims and Puritans who emigrated from England in the 1620s and 1630s carried the tradition of Fasting and Days of Thanksgiving with them to New England. In 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the resolution brought forth by Congress to declare Thanksgiving Day an official federally recognized holiday.
