Banks, government offices, and many companies will be closed, giving everyone a long weekend to celebrate.
Independence Day: A Key Moment in America’s History
The 4th of July is an important date in American history. On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress officially approved the Declaration of Independence, making the thirteen American colonies free from British rule. This marked the start of a new nation built on freedom, self-government, and liberty. A month later, 56 delegates signed the Declaration of Independence, making it official.
Independence Day has given Americans a chance to come together and celebrate freedom, unity, and patriotism, since it became a federal holiday in 1870. People enjoy family gatherings, lively parades, community events, and fireworks shows across the country.
