July 2019 Holidays

June 24, 2019

The month of July includes one national holiday in the US, the 4th of July. This year, Independence Day (July 4th) falls on a Thursday. Most banks, state and federal offices will be closed for this holiday. In addition, many private sector businesses also take the day off.

Independence Day
Independence Day in the US commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, though the founding fathers didn’t actually sign the Declaration of Independence until August 2, 1776. Their signatures were courageous acts of high treason that would have brought certain death if they had been apprehended and prosecuted by the British government.
Today we enjoy a day off to celebrate, but it actually wasn't until 1870 that July 4th became a federal holiday - nearly 100 years after the Declaration of Independence was signed. This day has become a symbol of patriotism and a time to stand unified as a country.

Note: Our Canadian friends celebrate their independence on Canada Day, which is July 1st.
