There are two significant U.S. holidays in the month of November. In 2018, Veteran's Day is observed on Monday, November 12th and Thanksgiving is celebrated on November 22nd.

Veteran's Day
Veteran’s Day is set aside to honor all military personnel who have served our country. In the United States we particularly honor our living veterans on Veteran's Day and our fallen soldiers on Memorial Day at the end of May.

The official Veteran's Day holiday is designated as November 11th. In 2018 this falls on a Sunday, so the holiday is observed on Monday, November 12th. Most banks, schools, and state and federal offices will be closed on the 12th. Most private sector businesses remain open on Veteran's Day.

America's first Thanksgiving was celebrated by the first European settlers. After their first harvest in 1621, the Pilgrims enjoyed a feast of thanksgiving to God that lasted three days. This marked the start of Thanksgiving as a federal holiday that is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November.

While not a federal holiday, the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) is a state holiday in nearly half the states in the US and is a paid day off by many employers.
