How do I setup remote client connections?Virtual TimeClock can be configured to allow remote client TimeClocks to connect to a TimeClock Server running at a remote location using the Internet. A static IP address is necessary to access your TimeClock Server from a remote location. The key to remote access is to open a single port on the router/gateway of your server network to allow remote client TimeClocks to connect. The remote client TimeClocks connect to the router using the static IP address of your router at a designated port and the router transparently forwards the information to the TimeClock Server. This is commonly known as 'port forwarding'. For more information on setting up a port forward, please consult the user's guide that came with your router.
Server Location Setup- Launch Virtual TimeClock Server and note the TCP IP address and port in use by Virtual TimeClock on your network.
- Access your router configuration settings and note the WAN static IP address assigned to you by your Internet service provider.
- Setup a new port forward on your router as follows:
A. Select 'TCP' for the protocol.
B. For the external (or 'from') port, enter any unused port number.
C. For the internal (or 'to') port, enter the Virtual TimeClock Server port noted in #1 above.
D. For the IP address, enter the Virtual TimeClock Server IP address noted in #1 above.
E. Save the settings to activate the port forward. - At the remote location, you'll need to know two pieces of information about your server network: the router WAN IP address (#2 above) and the external port (#3B above).
Remote Location Setup- Install and launch Virtual TimeClock Pro Client on a computer at the remote location.
- From the File menu, choose Connect Manually To Server.
- Enter the WAN IP address in the Address field and the external port number in the Port field.
- Click the Connect button to connect to your Virtual TimeClock Server.
