December Business Holidays

November 12, 2014

Christmas Day became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1870 under the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant and is celebrated on December 25. Christmas is also a widely observed cultural and civil holiday in many other parts of the world. Christmas is celebrated in many different ways, with customs varying from country to country and even within different regions of the same country.

Although Christmas Eve is not a federal holiday in the United States, it is still a widely celebrated holiday in many parts of the world on December 24. In fact, in 1914 during World War I, an unofficial truce began on Christmas Eve between British and German troops that allowed the soldiers from both sides to enjoy a brief respite from the war.
